Health and Nutrition program focuses on increasing mothers’, newborns’, children’s, and adolescent’s access to health care services. We work closely with the Government’s line agencies to ensure that every people can beat preventable and treatable illnesses and they get nutrition to survive and grow. In the context of an emergency, various health institutions like health posts were damaged which hamper the people’s basic right to health. IN support of international and national partners SSICDC has made a significant achievement in the sector of health and nutrition.

  • Supported to Severe Acute Malnutrition Management in 11 Outpatient Therapeutic Care (OTC) Centers
  • Supported to Moderate Acute Malnutrition Management in 24 Targeted Supplementary Feeding (TSF) Centers
  • Promotion of optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding-Emergency (IYCF-E) practices.
  • The construction of 3 health posts in Gankhu, Uhiya and Harmhi is completed. The health facilities are built under the government’s standard guidelines adopting pre-fab model earthquake resilient semi-permanent design with fences for safety and protection.
  • Solar and Geyser are installed for light and hot water facilities whereas fire extinguisher is added to deal with fire emergencies.
  • The birthing center at Gankhu health post has started functioning after getting approval from DPHO. In the case of Haruhi and Uhiya they are in the process to get approval.
  • Along with the construction of health facilities, CARE has also constructed 3 PHC-ORC buildings, 2 in Barpak and one in Simjung. Basic equipment and essential furniture required at all the birthing centers are supported by CARE Nepal.
  • Developed a health contingency plan in 8 program VDCs and developed a district profile.

  • 662 primary level students got benefits through health camps.
  • 30 staff of six HFs (including partner staff) trained on infection prevention
  • ORT rehydration therapy corners (ORT Corners) are established in all the Health facilities.
  • ORT corners aims to ensure that children under 5 and other patients are not severely exposed to dehydration and contribute to reducing diarrhea-related morbidity and mortality
  • Separate toilets for men and women are established in all three health posts.
  • CARE Nepal has also rehabilitated /constructed separate bathing facilities with lighting in 3 HFs and 3 in strategic market places or adjacent communities in coordination with ADH Project.

The main activities of SSICDC Gorkha had implemented the health-related programs as below;

  • Awareness-raising orientation, workshop. 
  • HIV/AIDS related activities (ie. Peer Educator Counseling Training, Video Show, Puppet Show, Street Drama show, day Celebration (world AIDS day, condom day and candlelight day, Game, Essay, Speech Competition, IEC Material distribution, Workshop, Rally, Condom distribution, SAFALTAM Income Generation activities, Hoarding Board display, Community Mobilization, various types of orientation for different levels, Orientation to School  Students on Safer Sex behaviors and HIV/ AIDS control, provide outreach education to the target group, conduct District AIDS Coordination Committee & stakeholders meeting, program joint monitoring visit, coordination with stakeholders/ line agencies, provide Integrated Health Center services, video show, refer to STI/VCT/PMTCT/CD4/ARV, Support to PLHA through Community Based Home Care service, nutrition support to PLHA, Cass support to Child who is PLHA, media mobilization, etc.
