Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

Gorkha 11 August, 2021

DRR is a systematic approach to identifying, assessing, and reducing the risks of disaster. It aims to reduce socio-economic vulnerabilities to disaster as well as dealing with the environmental and other hazards that trigger them. Nepal and Gorkha in Special is a hotspot for geophysical and climatic hazards. The district is relatively ranked very high in terms of vulnerability to natural calamities. The risk is believed to be increasing very rapidly mainly due to the growth in population. Another major factor for the increased risk is the lack of a favorable policy and legal environment commensurate with the present-day situation, needs, opportunities, and resources. In the context of emergency SSICDC in Collaboration with its partners has initiated to institutionalize DRR in the community level through LDMC Formation and its endorsement through VDC Assembly. Some of the major achievements in the year are:

  • Emergency Fund @ Rs. 50,000.00 established in Swanra & Taku and VDCs also allocated budget @ Rs. 50,000.00
  • Local Disaster Risk Management Plans (LDRMP) formulated and endorsed (Swara, Taku, PKD, Pandrung, Masel)
  • District Disaster Rescue Team (DDRT) Formed and trained
  • Simulations in Swanra, Takukot & Gorkha district accomplished
  • Trainings and awareness activities accomplished
  • CBDRR Training to FCHVs in 2 VDCs
  • LDMC Formation – Swanra, Takukot
